has a high concentration of trace minerals, potassium
(K), phosphorus (P), and pigments, particularly
carotene and xanthophyll, which make duckweed
meal an especially valuable dietary supplement for
fish and poultry(Leng et al., 1995). Fresh duckweed is well suited
to intensive fish and poultry farming systems with relatively rapid
water exchange rates for waste removal (Gaigher et
al., 1984), and duckweed is converted efficiently to
live weight by certain fish, which include carp and
tilapia as well as poultry.
