GroSpace - What is air layering?

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Air layering is a simple yet effective way of cloning a plant. If you would like to clone a particular tree or plant consider air layering.

Why would I want to use air layering to clone a plant?

  1. It’s free to air layer a plant
  2. You will have an exact genetic match of the plant or tree that you air layer
  3. You can swiftly grow a plant or tree
  4. You want to cut a tree branch and preserve it

Benefits of air layering

  • It’s free
  • Propagate fruit trees
  • Early harvest on fruit trees
  • You don’t need any seeds
  • You don’t need to wait long to grow
  • You can recycle trimmings
  • You can sell or replant tree prunings

How to air layer a tree?

Time needed: 30 days

  1. Ring bark

Remove the bark of a section of a branch about a thumbs length long – this is called a wound

  2. Wrap

Wrap GroMass around the wound and seal with plastic

  3. Secure

Tie a zip-tie or a cable tie on the top and bottom of your wrap

  4. Cut

After one month cut below your air layer wrap and remove the branch

  5. Replant

Use GroMass to prepare a GroBottle for replanting.

  6. Water

Add a cup of water into your GroBottle, maintain a consistent moisture level and watch your plant or tree grow.
