How free-range broiler chickens are farmed

Free-range broiler chickens are a type of meat chicken that are raised differently than chicken raised in traditional chicken farms. Free-range chickens are given access to the outdoors, allowing them to roam and forage freely. As opposed to being raised in cages or in close confinement, free-range chickens are able to move around and interact with their natural environment.

In free-range chicken farming, the chickens are housed in large open barns or covered areas where they can move about and forage for food. Inside the barns, these chickens are provided with fresh food, water, and shelter from the elements. The barns are also open to the outside, allowing the chickens to roam freely in the open range.

The open range area is usually fenced in and is filled with grass, weeds, and other plants. This provides the chickens with plenty of food to forage, as well as protection from predators. The open range also gives the chickens the opportunity to get some exercise, which helps to keep them healthy.

In order to ensure the chickens are able to forage in a safe environment, the open range area should be regularly monitored for potential dangers. This includes checking for any animals that could potentially harm the chickens, such as foxes and coyotes. The open range area should also be checked for any poisonous plants or potential sources of contamination.

During the day, the chickens should have plenty of access to natural food sources, such as grass, weeds, and insects. In addition to foraging, many free-range farmers also provide their chickens with a supplemental feed. This feed is usually in the form of a pellet or mash, and is designed to provide the chickens with additional nutrients needed for growth and health.

At night, the chickens will return to their barns to roost. Inside the barns, the chickens should have access to fresh water and food, as well as a place to sleep and nest. The barns should also provide adequate protection from the elements, such as wind, rain, and cold temperatures.

Free-range chicken farming is a great way to raise chickens in a humane and ethical manner. By allowing the chickens to access the outdoors and forage for food, these birds are able to live a more natural and healthy lifestyle. Not only does this benefit the chickens, but it also helps to ensure that the chicken meat produced is of a higher quality.
